KidFriendly
The mission behind this idea is to recruit four more parents who want to
homeschool their children while having an environment conducive to learning
and social activity.
My main plan is this:
I want to form a "private school" that is based in the homes of five
parents. This is a reasonable class size for school
aged children. The parents need to have a child in the first grade who would
be willing to have the children grow with the curriculum.
The parents would rotate their own teaching days:
example:
Monday-parent 1
Tuesday-parent 2
Wednsday-parent 3
Thursday-parent 4
Friday-parent 5
The benefits of this type of system is that:
- Each parent would have four days "off" from teaching.
- The children would be in a classroom type environment based in the
designated parent's home.
- The children would obtain the social activities as required by state.
- The children would benefit from smaller class size.
- The children would benefit from a "home environment".
- The curriculum would be open to parent "board meetings" every week where
the next week's curriculum would be discussed and agreed upon.
- The parents could still benefit from the homeschool experience while also
knowing that they would not have sacrifice thier income or working
environment (or private time for that matter).
- Less viruses and sickness would be "caught" because of the smaller class
size.
The Cons would be:
- One day per week would be designated for the parent
- Each parent would have to maintain the records or activities designated
to them in order to report them to the California State Education
Department.
- Each parent would have to agree to "board meetings" on a designated
evening or weekend day (and believe me, that could be really fun!!)
- Each parent could not "call in sick" on thier designated day unless dire
emergency...it would disrupt the schedule.
- Each parent would be responsible for "homework" just as though the child
were in regular school.
- The designated parent's day would be held in that parent's home, so the
other parents would be responsible for dropping the children off at an
agreed upon time (most likely 9:00 or 10:00 am if all were in
agreement)Carpools could be created to accomodate this inconvenience.
- Each parent would have to be consistent in reporting progress during
their scheduled day so that the secretary/teacher could log in the progress
each day.
We would also
be affiliated with the various support groups and homeschool groups
so that we could coordinate field trips in
accordance with other "private or home schooled children".
This is a non-profit school. The sole reason that an individual would join the
school is to promote healthy and fun learning practices in a more socialized
setting while providing a homeschool base. No one is paid, the payment
would be in the fact that the children are well adjusted and learning better
than ever before! Funds would have to be arranged and, whenever possible,
information shared and resources obtained. If you are
interested in this type of setting, please contact me. I am all
for placing the power of education back into the parent's hands!
I am also looking for parents who have the following:
- A parent who is credentialed as a teacher and wants or is
currently homeschooling thier child or children. The
purpose of this is so that they could be the curriculum
administrator of the private school.
- A parent who would be in charge of social event and field trips. They
would be designated as the social event coordinator for the school.
- A parent who is currently in support of homeschooling who is licensed
as a psychotherapist or other qualified psychology
degree.
- A parent who would be qualified as a secretary to fill out the
necessary forms required and keep acurate records of the
private school's daily activities.
