Jan's art lessons will include drawing and painting all types of animals, landscapes, perspective, still lifes, abstracts, impressionism, the Masters and more…using mediums of watercolor (in tubes), watercolor pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, colored pencils, acrylics, pencil and charcoal etc. All these projects include and reinforce the teaching of drawing and composition techniques.

Starr Ranch Junior Biologists I
June 9 -13, Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - noon; Friday 7 - 10 p.m.
Starr Ranch Sanctuary, a 4000-acre Audubon nature preserve east of Dove Canyon and Coto de Caza, announces our 2008 summer program for kids. With the goal to connect people with nature, Starr Ranch has created experiences that are exciting and fun. Children ages 8 - 13 are invited to join the Starr Ranch scientific team as "Starr Ranch Junior Biologists" (SRJB) to learn hands-on how scientists study wild animals and their habitats. SRJB I kids explore native habitats and have fun with some of the techniques scientists use to study willd animals. or July 7-11. Spell to Write and Read Seminar
When: June 13-14, 9 am to 6 pm each day
Where: Grace Classical Academy 24600 La Plata, Laguna Nigel
This is a two-day, sixteen hour teacher-training, providing you with the tools and knowledge to implement the SWR/Spalding method with confidence and success, whether your students are beginning, elementary, or remedial. You will learn how to use phonics to teach spelling, writing and reading, place each child at their correct level by diagnostic tests, and adapt this method to the student's abilites. After touring Body Worlds 3 you can explore the rest of the Science Center and/or take in a IMAX movie (movie is extra)! As you take a self-guided tour through BODY WORLDS 3 & The Story of the Heart, you can experience anatomy step by step, exploring one body system at a time. Full-body specimens are included throughout the exhibit to show how the systems fit in real human bodies. BODY WORLDS 3 is one of the largest traveling exhibitions ever displayed at the California Science Center, covering 20,000 square feet. To help plan your day, please note that on average, guests spend about 1½ hours in the exhibit, which is displayed on two floors. Through the life-like and dramatic poses of full-body specimens and detailed presentation of organs and body parts, guests gain profound insights into the structure and function of healthy and unhealthy bodies. BODY WORLDS 3 is a moving and unique experience that not only inspires science learning, but instills wonder and appreciation for the elegance and complexity of the human body. See how the muscles, bones and other systems work through body specimens poised in the rigorous activities of soccer, gymnastics, archery, cycling, dancing and power walking. Come for a Guided Lesson called Body Language! The tour starts at 11:30 but we should arrive closer to 10:30 to give time for the tram ride from the parking lot to the museum and to take in the view. Please give yourself 3 hours to spend at the Getty for the tour and to walk around on your own. Omly 20 spots open for students K-12, and 16 spots for chaperones. During the lesson, students will study a limited number of objects in depth rather than tour the entire collection. Their lessons are highly participatory. Students work in small groups and engage in discussion, writing, role-playing, and, in some cases, art-making activities. Lesson Description The body has always been a principal subject in Western art. Students will look at figurative works of art to discover how artists express emotions, ideas, and values through gesture, pose, clothing, and expression. This lesson supports the Visual Arts Content Standards for grades K–12 in the areas of artistic perception, historical and cultural context, and aesthetic valuing. Homeschool Cruise to Mexico

The cruise is a regularly scheduled cruise with Royal Caribbean, but there will be a private area to do some special classes relating to the destinations other private functions - like a fiesta!
