Gloria has been an art dealer and art instructor for young people since 1984. Her philosophy is that first one must discover what type of imagery they prefer to create, and then what type of medium they prefer; watercolor landscapes, acrylic portraits, pencil sketching, whatever. After they discover this, then they can work toward improving their skills. The more they create what they like, and how they like to do it, the more confident they will become, and the more they enjoy and understand art. Knitting to Learn for Homeschoolers
nurture your child’s brain development while they’re having fun at Knitting to Learn!
Regular Handwork, whether knitting or crochet or sewing, is a different type of “brainwork” that provides a great complement to academic learning. Children who participate in hobbies such as knitting that engage both hands in a variety of movements build a strong neural foundation for the symbolic thinking they will need later for mathematics and abstract reasoning. The rhythmic movement of the yarn through the fingers provides gentle sensory stimulation that is soothing as the children gradually experience the sense of accomplishment that comes with making something beautiful from start to finish.

Group and/or individual classes are available year-round, flexible schedule in Lake Forest or surrounding areas. Crochet and intermediate knitting classes are also available for students who have learned the basic (garter stitch) techniques. Students are encouraged to practice at home, and parents are welcome to watch and/or help in class. Lenore Dunn has taught Handwork (knitting, crocheting, and sewing) in a charter school as well as classes for homeschoolers in grades 1-8. She enjoys helping children of all abilities to express their unique creativity while making something they will always treasure.

Terry has taught art in high school, middle school and elementary school and now teaches from her home located on the border of Orange and Tustin. Her philosophy is to teach drawing techniques first and than work with color. Students learn to draw faces/people in proportion and objects in three dimension. Composition, value, color theory, etc. are taught as well as a monthly session on Art Masters. All materials are supplied and included in the cost of classes. The method of teaching guides children into comparing to themselves and not to the others in the class.

Based in Mission Viejo, Jan has been teaching art out of her home for the past 6 years. Most of her students are homeschooled. Her teaching style is relaxed yet focused. She wants the kids to feel no pressure to “get it right” so to speak, yet, she wants them to embrace and understand the techniques needed to draw objects, landscapes, portraits, animals, etc. in a way that brings a certain realism to their art. Then, from that point of understanding, the freedom & creativity to develop their own style. She reinforces the elements of composition, and basic drawing techniques, all in an atmosphere of creative freedom and fun!
